The Greek Islands had already become a favourite holiday destination for me when in 1996 I was made redundant and found myself with time on my hands and sufficent money in the bank to spend part of the summer travelling around the Aegean Sea. I sold my car and booked a flight on British airways to Athens Airport and thence to Pireaus ferry port.

About this blog

At the time of my journey I made notes about the islands and places that I visited with the intention of putting them into some sort of journal or albumn of my experiences. This was not neccessarily intended for general publication but at least would be a record to which I could refer in the future as time dimmed the memory.

As with so many good intentions this never really came to fruition and some of the notes were lost, but I did have profuse quantities of photgraphs that I taken with my trusty Pentax P.30 SLR camera. Of course this was before the digital camera had become widespead and the pictures were on traditional 35mm film. Recently I have started to scan these prints and at the same time add them to my Flickr Photostream and soon noticed that some of them were becoming some of my most frequently viewed photos.

This prompted me to think about getting these photographs and the stories behind them into some sort of format and the result was this blog. By its very nature it is finite and will have a limited span but I hope will be of interest to at least a few people.

The posts will be in no specific order and certainly not chronological but usually based on memories prompted by an individual or group of photographs.
